R.M.S Queen Mary, commissioned by Cunard in 1934 at the height of transatlantic voyages, sailed more than a million nautical miles and carried more than two million passengers during her thirty-year career. Together with R.M.S Queen Elizabeth she provided weekly transatlantic services. During the Second World War the ship was converted into a troopship and provided enormous service to the Allied war effort. Her speed allows the ship to outrun enemy pursuers. During a voyage in 1942, the ship carried a record number of 16,082 soldiers. The ship was taken out of service in 1967 and is currently moored in Long Beach as a museum and hotel ship.
